Coaching and mentoring has always played an important role in helping organizations achieve more through their people resources….to gain alignment for organization goals and vision and to maintain an enervating organizational climate.

Coaching Works Best in a Crisis

It has become more important in the current economic situation, where people generally feel anxious, worried and are fearful….and businesses are funding it difficult to achieve their goals doing what they commonly do.

Some organizations may be fortunate to have leaders that are charismatic, have good coaching and mentoring skills. These leaders, if they can find the time can lead the business through the crisis. 

However in today’s hectic and technocratic world, most leaders either do not have these aptitudes or even if they do, do not have the time to coach and mentor their staff effectively.

Do you suffer from some of these symptoms?

Organizations are thinly staffed with increasingly flat structures. 

I have worked in the earlier years of my career for companies where the human resource policy dictates that the difference in “grades’ between a manager and his direct subordinate should not be more than “2”. This is because where the gaps are too wide, it is hard for people to understand each other due to their difference in background. With the flat organization structures that we have today such gaps have become inevitable resulting is lapses in communication, trust and confidence building.

Aggravating the situation is the fact that young employees today resent “paternalism” and often react defensively when they detect that their senior, especially when he is an older person, is trying to counsel them.

I have found that coaching and mentoring were the best ways to bring about change, to get people to adopt new knowledge skill and attitudes…and to ensure that these properly inculcated to become their second nature.

As the organization I oversaw grew,  I documented and transferred much of these coaching and mentoring skills to my key managers, who also succeeded with them.  The A.H.A. program was developed from these basics, but has been enhanced and fine tuned over my last 10 years of commercial coaching and consulting. 

I left my corporate career in 1997, with the objective to move to Perth for a better lifestyle and do Financial Service New Media Consultancy in Jakarta. The Asian Financial Crisis truncated these hopes and instead propelled me to become a Coach and Consultant for a variety of business, both Multinationals and SMBs that were facing dire situations.

I am happy to note that almost all the companies that worked with me during those times survived and subsequently prospered when the good time returned.

It is not my intention in this letter to present to you the contents of my coaching program but to assess your interest to learn more about it. In any case every coaching assignment of mine has been unique in every sense, even though I have learnt to adopt a generic work process to gain maximum effectiveness.
